THE YEAR 5 AND 6 TEAM
Term 1
Maths - Algebra The year 5 & 6 team did algebra. In algebra we learnt about number patterns and number sequences.
Art - Self Portraits In this term, the year 5 & 6 team did self portraits. We had to trace around a photograph of our face first with a pencil and over the pencil with a BLACK vivid, then we got them photocopied 5 times, two of which we coloured and three of which we painted.
Sport - Cross Country In Cross Country, people raced against others in a race. In the year 6 girls, Payton Wright came first, Zara Bunnell came second and Gabrielle Hale came third.
Inquiry - Heath and Risks In inquiry the year 5 & 6 team did health assessments and risk assessments. In room 13 it was learning about hazards and risks. In room 14 it was friendship and keeping each other safe. In room 15 it was Healthy Foods and the food pyramid. In room 16 it was bullying and road safety.
Performing Arts - Arts In this term, the year 5 & 6 team did performing arts. In room 13 it was percussion. In room 14 it was rakau, in room 15 it was Garage Band and in room 16 it was Indian Dancing.

Term 2
Maths - Statistics For this topic, the year 5 & 6 children made investigations and research for the science fair. Statistics is a great strategy to know and use.
Art - Printing Printing was an awesome achievement for all of us! The syndicate learnt to design many patterns using collograph, lino-cut and mono-print. We were all very proud of the outcomes!
Inquiry - Environmental Sustainability For this subject the year 5 & 6 team created house designs and house plans using solar powers, solar lighting and solar heating. This was a great thing to learn for later life!
Sport - Run Jump Throw! 2009's Run Jump Throw was a fabulous event! We all had a great time, having fun AND keeping fit!

Term 3
Maths - Geometry Where we learnt all about 2nd and 3rd shapes we all got to make cubes and other shapes out of paper and even wire.
Inquiry - Space We did it all on planets and dark matter we all had made a power point or poster and some people even made models.
Art - Masks We got balloons and we covered them with paper mache and then popped the balloon. Then we made the base stronger. Then we started decorating.
Jump Rope For Heart We all got in our house groups and we went round going to different activities for skipping then we moved around until every group was at everything. There were all kinds of skips like backwards, forwards, double jump and more.

Term 4
Maths - Measurement This term the year 5 & 6 children have developed a great knowledge in finding area and perimeter.
Game Making Currently we are all making our own games for wet breaks. This includes packaging, marketing and play testing.
Writing - Recounts For this topic we wrote about our experiences on camp. We published them and stuck them into our portfolios.
Team Event - Camp Kaitoke Camp Kaitoke was an amazing experience! We learnt about how to survive in the wilderness, as well as abseiling, kayaking, orienteering, horse riding, low ropes, burma bridge and archery. We spent 3 days and 2 nights and we all enjoyed it.
Sport - Duathalon In the duathalon everyone will be competing against their own age group. We will do a running and biking course and hopefully it will be a fine day.
