Children with Special Abilities at Paremata School

The gifted and talented programme at Paremata School has been developed to offer extra and extension activities to cater to children with high degrees of passion, motivation and ability in a variety of areas of the curriculum.

We have two groups currently running, which are the science extension group and an extension writing group. The science group has 3 groups with ages ranging from year 2 to year 8 with a range of subjects and activities on offer.

The writing group has 2 groups of students ranging from year 4 to 8.

We also have a band which enables children who are music smart to play and perform.

The school holds a register which has identified children across 7 areas.

These areas are General intelligence

                          Specific academic areas

                          Visual and performing arts

                           Psychomotor ability ( Physical)

                           Leadership

                           Creative Thinking

                           Interpersonal and intrapersonal skills

Many of our students are recognised through the use of Gardiner’s Multiple Intelligences and a responsive environmental approach which has involved setting up a learning environment across the school which enables gifts and talents to surface.

Being gifted and talented is not just about high marks in tests. It is also about passion, perseverance and motivation in different areas.
