ROOM 13 HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS

1

All children in Room 13 are given homework every week except the first and last weeks of each term.

2

This homework usually follows a standard format:

1.  SPELLING.  The children will receive 10 new spelling words each Monday which they copy into their spelling notebooks.  Children are tested on these words the following Friday and any incorrect words will be added on to their next week's spelling list.

2.  MATHS.  The children will be given a maths task which reinforces the work they have been doing in class.  This may be book or Mathletics based.

3.  READING.  It is expected that children read for at least 15 minutes each night.  A specific reading task may be set which could be book or internet based.

4.  RESEARCH.  A research topic is set which could relate to inquiry / culture (in which case support resources will be posted on the school website) or alphabet (where a letter is set each week and each child researches any topic of their own choice beginning with that letter).  In all cases it is expected that the children present at least one full page of their research findings in their homework book.

3

Each Monday the children are given a copy of the set homework to glue into their homework book.  This is also available on the school website.

4

Children should take their spelling notebooks and their homework books home on Monday and should return these to school the following Friday.

5

Homework should be a positive learning experience for the children and therefore parental support and help is encouraged.  Parents are welcome to write their own comments on their child's work in the homework book.

6

Parents will be notified if their child does not complete their homework appropriately.
