Diwali Shubhkamnaye
Happy Diwali from our families to yours

Diwali or Deepavali is a celebration of the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and renewal of life. It is a time for friends and families to gather, share food and look forward to the year ahead.

Recycling Week is here—and it’s your chance to be part of something big!

From 20–26 October, join thousands of Kiwis and hundreds of organisations nationwide as we take action to avoid, reduce, reuse, repair, and recycle smarter.

Organised by Reclaim and NZAEE to raise awareness about waste minimization and recycling through daily themes and events. This year’s theme is “Identifying Opportunities”.

Imagine if every business, school, council, and individual across New Zealand made just one change to cut down waste—together, we could transform the future of our planet.

This year, Plastics NZ is proud to spotlight the incredible work our members are doing to enhance the circularity of plastics—focusing on redesign, recovery, and recycling. We’re celebrating the industry’s progress and aiming to inspire others to raise the bar even higher.

Let’s inspire change. Let’s lead the conversation. Let’s highlight what works.

PATROLS TRAINING FOR 2026 TEAM

If you are Years 5, 6 or 7 right now, YOU can train to be part of our Traffic Safety Team next year! Yes, it takes guts to be out there in all weather, integrity to turn up on time and not let your team down, and commitment to keeping your community safe.

Sign up at the office this week. You will need to take the letter/permission slip home and discuss it with your parents. Return the signed slip to the office by the end of Week 2 (Friday 17th October).

Training with Constable Steve is on Wednesday 5th November (Week 5). You will then go on the roster for the rest of the term to practise your new skills!

A notice from Mrs Leggett

BOOK OF THE WEEK
Anahera : the mighty kiwi mama  by Ruth Paul (Picture Book - P)

When she was very young, Anahera - Angel - was rescued by forestry workers in Taranaki and brought to the Otorohanga Kiwi House in Waikato. Looked after by the staff there, she grew huge and strong and soon became the champion of their breeding programme - the mama of over 60 chicks! Years later, people from a very special conservation project, Capital Kiwi, visited Otorohanga with a bold proposal. Anahera was chosen as one of the kiwi to be released in the hills of the capital city. After four decades of life in captivity, would the mighty mama survive and thrive in the wild?
