Paremata School

Mā te whai pānga mai a ngā mātua me te hāpori, e rite ai wā tātou tamariki mō te paeako tawhiti

With the involvement of parents and community our children will be prepared for life long learning.

Mā roto atu I ngā whakaakoranga hiranga me ngā tūhae wheiako whai kounga.

Through excellent teaching and a range of high quality learning experiences.

Ka whai uara, ka whakautea te tuakiri me te mana o ia tamaiti.

The individuality and dignity of each child will be valued and respected.

Kia ora tatou

We are a Decile 9 full primary in Paremata, Porirua and we cater for students from Year 1-8. There are approximately 370 pupils in 16 classes with a roll that grows to 400 by the end of each school year. Our school values;  Respect , Resilience, Empathy, Identity, Community, Active Learning and Global Awareness are integrated into everything  we do here at Paremata and children are encouraged and rewarded for showing these attributes each day. Our motto is whakapono kia koe  which is about having self belief and Attitude Determines Altitude focuses on waiaro (Attitude) which is having a positive  attitude towards everything we do and taking responsibility for our actions.

Our personal identity, language and culture plays an important role in celebrating who we are as people and Te Reo Maori and Tikanga Maori protocols are naturally immersed across the school.

We are a very inclusive welcoming school catering for a wide range of abilities. Our highly qualified and committed staff offer strong classroom programmes including remedial, special needs and extension activities. Our Deep Learning curriculum lens focuses on our students' voice in the classroom and the school guiding what topics the tamariki study.

We also have a  Tamariki  Parliament called Te Runanga O Paremata which is made up of  M.P.s from each class.  The Parliament meets with me  twice a term in conjunction with BOT meetings to discuss  strategic plans and reviews for the school. The BOT and our Parent-link  listen carefully to what the Parliament feedback in all strategic planning and internal evaluations. Student Agency is  a large part of our school culture and all the tamariki play an important role in decision making around school curriculum, rules and our environment.

Our school band ,Wave TV station, Paremata Idol  and whole school  focus on the Arts either with our school production or Artsplash give the children ample opportunity to express their talents. We also hold a whanau curriculum open evening annually and  participate in all of the Parumoana Sports Tournaments. Our Kapa Haka group is an integral part of our school  and are well known for their rousing haka!

The Paremata community including the Board Of Trustees and Parent-link are a wonderful group of parents who work tirelessly for the school and the fundraising feats of Parent-link are legendary. Each year the parent community gets fully involved in the school's annual gala, raising money to enhance the learning opportunities for the children.

Our Year 8 Student Council play a big role in planning school events and fundraising. The children are encouraged to become Global Citizens by playing a positive role in society through carrying out charity work and fundraising for a wide range of different causes. We currently fundraise annually for a number of national  and international agencies.

We believe we can offer your child a fabulous and engaging all round education and we welcome visits to the school. If you would like to know more please contact us on 04 233 1339.

I look forward to meeting you.
